Now that you have your Engagement Session done and invitations for your wedding ordered, it’s time for your Bridal Session! Every bridal session brings so much excitement for both the bride and the groom! This is the first time you will both be dressed in your wedding attire. It’s finally starting to feel real! I want your bridal session to be a night you remember for the rest of your life. Here are a few pieces of advice to make this night as stress free and memorable as it can be!
| Bring the right person with you to your bridal session. You are in no way required to bring someone with you, however, many brides choose to bring a mom, close friend or their maid of honor. I always love the opportunity to get to know these special people in your life but my biggest concern always is your ability to be comfortable in front of my camera. Bringing the right person along with you is crucial to that. If you choose to bring someone with you to assist with your dress, hair and make up, etc. PLEASE make sure it is someone you feel like you and your fiance are comfortable being yourself in front of. The last thing we need is awkward kisses and smiles because you are worried about who is watching. Bring someone who makes you feel confident! Because girl you are gonna kill it in that wedding dress!
| Clean your wedding ring! I love to get some close up details of your gown and ring during your bridal session and we want to make sure it is as sparkly and clean as the day you picked it up. Most jewelers offer free ring cleanings so make a date night out of it before your bridals!
| Bring your groom’s ring. Often times our sweet grooms will forget their ring at home because it is not an accessory they are used to wearing. So please make sure that is high on your list of things to bring to your bridal session. These are often the portraits that get blown up on canvases and large prints to be hung in your home!
| Your bridal session is a great test for your wedding day. Pay close attention to what you like, and don’t like about your hair and makeup during bridals so you can make appropriate adjustments for your wedding day!
| Be on Time! Be on Time! Be on Time! Be on Time! Be on Time! Be on Time! I know, Charissa went a little crazy with repeating that phrase, but trust me, it’s important. In fact, give yourself extra time. The number one stressor for brides is running late. Please don’t give the chance for stress to ruin your bridal session. Give yourself plenty of time to get ready, so that you can be nothing but excited for such a momentous occasion.
| If you are planning a first look, remember to not have any expectations. You want your groom to know that no matter how he reacts it is a moment you will both remember forever. So just enjoy it! Don’t forget to chat with your groom before your session to make sure he knows where he is supposed to meet me and that you coordinate how everyone will arrive to the location!
| Share any concerns about keeping your gown clean with me before your session. If you are worried about keeping the train of your dress clean you can bring a pillowcase, sheet, or shower curtain to place under your train. Please know if you choose this option it will limit the amount of movement that is allowed during your session. If there is time between your bridal session and your wedding I highly recommend getting your gown dry cleaned after your session so that you can just run, dance and enjoy your session. I love to capture true, candid emotion and movement is a large part of that. Plus you only get to wear your dress twice so why not enjoy it!
| Bring any and all accessories you plan to wear on your wedding day. Including shoes! This is a great opportunity to break in those new shoes and try out those new pair of earrings!
| Confirm with all vendors the day before so that you know of any hiccups before hand. This includes florist, HMUA, your groom (me trying to be funny!) and the person you have chosen to accompany you.
| RELAX. Yes you heard me right. Take a deep breathe. Don’t forget to enjoy every minute of it. I promise I will do everything I can to make this a night you two will remember forever!
As always if you have any questions about getting ready for your bridal session I am here to help! Now let’s get shooting!
